How big is a 2 carat diamond?

Carat measures weight, not size, but weight decides how large a diamond looks. A 2 carat round diamond measures about 8.1 mm across, and a 2 carat heart will have a similar face-up area spread over its own outline. Fancy shapes such as oval, pear and marquise often look larger than a round of the same weight because more of their weight sits in the visible top of the stone.
